Rag Rug..to be continued

I have been making a rag rug from my old clothes. I used to take them to Vinnies but decided this time to make something useful out of them. It has taken me quite a while to get to this stage, plaiting and sewing onto the hessian but it gives me something for my hands to do as I am watching the TV. I will post a photo of the finished rug sometime in the not too distant future!

Woven basket

I made this woven basket at another weekend workshop at Hazelhurst gallery. I included emu feathers and wooden beads to the final row when completing the top row of the basket.

Wall-hanging art

I knitted a large piece of fabric from Jute, attached it to a branch and then poked feathers according to size and colour into the weave. I'm surprised... it came out better then expected and I am also able to keep adding feathers as I find them on my daily walks.

Trash art

An up-cycled creative piece made from rubbish collected from the streets and the beach. It was assembled at the sculpture class mentioned in an earlier post. I hot glued each piece on a painted base and arranged them according to colour. The face in the middle is one of many I plaster cast and used for an art group activity. Thank you to my photographer friendwww.brigittemarlot.com for the inspiration.

The Wave

This was my first attempt at carving a hebel sculpture. After a friend had seen them at the markets I decided to give it a go and see how hard it was. It turns out it's quite easy to carve with a saw and a rasp file but it makes a hell of a mess.

Small canvas art project

I've started a small art project collaging images into silhouettes of figures in interesting positions onto small art canvases. This is the first one in a series.

Simple sew dresses

I modified a dress pattern from an existing pattern I bought from lincraft.
Made from cotton, comfy to wear and cool for summer. Easy to sew with no zippers.

Toy dog and Friend

I made this small white toy dog as a trial run before introducing this project to an art therapy client. I found the pattern in a library book full of different dog breeds. The toy behind is knitted with the wool of an alpaca and bought from an alpaca farm.

Art in a box

An interesting project from a ten week sculpture course I have been attending.
Putting art inside a cardboard box, collaged with pages from an old atlas and a seed pod collected from the beach poking out the bottom of it.

Oscar memorial pillow

Oscar our delightful and sadly missed Shiba Inu passed away recently. I made a pillow to cushion my grief. I printed a photo of Oscar onto transfer paper and ironed it onto cotton fabric.
I then cut a pattern around the image of his head and stuffed it with his fur that I had collected over many years. He shed his beautiful double coat of fur twice a year and it was quite a task to
 brush it out.
